CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resucitation) and AED (Automatic External Defibrillator)
The most common cause of Sudden Cardiac Arrest is ventricular fibrillation - when the heart's electrical impulses become irregular and the heart is unable to pump oxygen rich blood throughout the body.
What is defibrillation?
Defibrillation sends an electrical current throuogh an erratic heart to restore an organised rythum. Today, there are devices known as Automated External Defibrillators or AED's. These devices are safe, effective and an easy to use method of restoring the hrearts to a normal rhythm.
AED'S Save Lives
AED's are designed to be used bynon-medical, and medical persinnel. The new generation of AEDs analyzes a victims condition and if necessary, delivers an electrical shock to the heart to reverse sudden cardiac arrest.
One-button operation with clear voice directions and automatic analysis enables a person with minimal training to use the device.
The key to surviving sudden cardiac arrest is the speed of response. Dr.Richard Cummins from Seattle, USA discovered that if a series of events took place in a set sequence, a heart attack victim had a greater chance of survival. These events are know as the "Chain of Survival".
WHEN EVERY SECOND COUNTS. NOW IS THE TIME!!!
The key to surviving sudden cardiac arrest is the speed of response. In addition to CPR most cardiac arrest victims need an immediate electrical shock to restore the heart's normal rhytm.
If a victim receives a shock within one minute, there is a 90% chance of resucitation. If a victim must wait ten minutes for a shock, the chance of survival drops to less than 5%.
The explanation to the "Chain of Survival" is:
- Early Access to the patient, including early recognition of the condition and call for help. Chance of survival increases by 5% - Early Basic Life Support or CPR (Rescue Breathing and External Chest Compressions) Chance of Survival increases by 10% - Early Defibrillation (An electrical shock to restart the heart) Chance of survival increases by 75% - Early Advanced Life Support (Drug therapies to maintain condition), this is provided by medical professional
In order to implement an AED at work, school, gym, pool side, bar, conference venue, hotel, factory, home ... please contact us.
For training we can arrange for training and implementation of an AED programme with a professional organisation of traners who will train you with CPR / BLS (Basic Life Support) and AED.
